Industrial Cable Manipulator with a Pneumatic Drive RMK CM-125-PP — Custom Configuration
The RMK CM-125-PP Cable Manipulator is a custom-built industrial manipulator with a pneumatic drive, designed for the mechanized handling of loads weighing up to 125 kg. The equipment is mounted on a stationary column and features a two-section articulated cantilever jib, a flexible wire-rope lifting element, and a hook with an integrated swivel.
The manipulator is supplied with magnetic and mechanical gripping devices for handling round products. The equipment was designed and manufactured in the Russian Federation by Russian Manipulator Company.
Purpose and Design Features
The RMK CM-125-PP Pneumatic Cable Manipulator is designed to transfer roller-type products from production equipment into transport containers. Its use reduces the labor intensity of auxiliary operations and enables products to be lifted, moved, and positioned within the specified working area.
The supporting structure consists of a stationary column with a mounting flange. A rigid two-section cantilever jib is installed on the column through a slewing unit. The two sections are connected by an intermediate joint that enables relative rotation in the horizontal plane.
A linear drive consisting of a pneumatic cylinder and pulley transmission is installed inside the first jib section. Motion from the cylinder is transmitted to a flexible wire-rope lifting element. A pulley at the end of the second section guides the wire rope into a freely suspended vertical position. A hook with an integrated swivel is attached to the end of the wire rope.
The slewing unit provides unrestricted 360° rotation of the jib around the column. The intermediate joint has a rotation angle of up to 300°, while the swivel enables the hook to rotate 360° relative to the wire rope. This kinematic arrangement provides access to points within the working area throughout the specified horizontal working radius and vertical stroke.
The manipulator features a reinforced supporting structure and mechanical components designed with an increased safety margin and extended service life. The compact jib arrangement enables the equipment to be installed close to a wall or production machinery. A pass-through compressed-air supply within the slewing unit prevents restrictions caused by pneumatic lines twisting as the jib rotates.
Control System
The RMK CM-125-PP is equipped with a stepless dynamic control system for load balancing and vertical movement. Pneumatic semi-automatic balancing reduces the force the operator must apply when lifting and positioning a product.
Vertical movement can be controlled in two ways:
- Using the rotary control handle: the operator controls the drive through the pendant, ensuring smooth, precise movement and positioning of the payload.
- By applying force directly to the load: the operator moves the load or gripping device directly, enabling more accurate positioning of the product.
The control pendant is integrated into the gripping-device suspension. It contains the operating-mode controls, parking-brake controls, balancing-force adjustment, a balancing-pressure gauge, and a fixed handle.
All horizontal movements of the jib sections are performed freely through direct operator force applied to the handle, load, or gripping device. For more accurate positioning, the operator reduces the movement speed as the product approaches its placement point.
Cable Manipulator Components
The RMK CM-125-PP design includes the main supporting, drive, control, and load-handling components:
- Stationary column: serves as the supporting base for the cantilever jib and is secured to a prepared foundation through the mounting flange.
- Mounting flange: has overall dimensions of 550 × 550 mm. The center-to-center spacing between the four mounting holes is 500 × 500 mm.
- Slewing unit: connects the column to the jib and provides unrestricted 360° rotation in the horizontal plane.
- Two-section cantilever jib: consists of two rigid sections connected by an intermediate joint with a rotation angle of up to 300°.
- Pneumatic drive: is based on a rod-type pneumatic cylinder compliant with ISO 15552 and installed inside the cantilever section.
- Pulley transmission: transmits motion from the pneumatic cylinder to the flexible wire-rope lifting element.
- Lifting element: consists of a flexible wire rope that provides vertical movement of the suspended gripping device.
- Hook with swivel: is attached to the end of the wire rope and can rotate through 360°, simplifying load orientation during handling.
- Air preparation unit: includes a connection fitting, a lockable manual shut-off valve, and a combined filter pressure regulator.
- Pneumatic lines: the supply line passes through the slewing unit, while the control lines are routed inside the cantilever section.
- Working-area limiters: adjustable stops on the slewing unit and intermediate joint enable the permissible jib rotation angles to be configured.
- Parking-position locking mechanisms: prevent unintended movement of the jib sections when the manipulator is parked without a payload.
- PML 300 magnetic gripper: is designed to lift round products weighing up to 150 kg and sheet products weighing up to 300 kg. The gripper is activated manually and has a lifting eye for attachment to the hook.
- Mechanical pincer gripper: is designed for the vertical handling of round products with diameters from 76 to 219 mm and weights up to 150 kg. The gripper is activated manually.
The flexible wire-rope lifting element reduces the mass of the moving assembly compared with manipulators in which the drive moves both the load and jib components. This reduces system inertia and simplifies the rapid, precise handling of relatively light loads.
Compliance and Safety
The manipulator is manufactured in accordance with applicable safety, occupational health, and environmental requirements. The proposed configuration complies with the 6K heavy-duty operating class under GOST 25546-82 and has a fire-safe and explosion-protected design.
The pneumatic safety system is based on fast-acting valves. It prevents the payload from falling in the event of an emergency compressed-air supply failure or a break in the pneumatic lines.
The design includes the necessary safety devices. The equipment has a certificate of conformity with the requirements of Technical Regulation TR CU 010/2011 “On Safety of Machinery and Equipment.”
The manipulator is supplied with a set of technical documentation that includes the technical passport, operation and maintenance manual, dimensional 3D model, drawings of wear parts, pneumatic installation and circuit diagrams, list of spare parts, tools, and accessories, and certificate of conformity.
